Therapy

What is CMD?

"CMD stands for cranio-mandibular dysfunction and describes a pathological condition of one or both jaw joints, taking into account all influencing structures, such as nerves, joints, muscles and skull bones." (Mariella K. Koch)

There are many causes of dysregulation of the jaw. These include, for example, tension, everyday stress, burnout, depression, trauma and injuries to the face, head and neck area, grinding and clenching your teeth at night or all day, sleep disorders, misaligned teeth and poor posture.

Common symptoms of temporomandibular joint problems (TMD):

  • Pain in the head, jaw, face, teeth and neck

  • Restricted movement of the mouth and cervical spine

  • Swallowing and speech problems, - “lump feeling” in the throat

  • Cracking and rubbing noises when moving the jaw

  • Sleep and concentration disorders

  • Tinnitus

  • Dizziness

  • Migraine

Other possible complaints:

  • Pain in the shoulder, back and pelvis area

  • Hip, knee and foot problems

  • Digestive problems, irritable bowel syndrome, burning tongue

  • Breathing and heart problems

Depending on one's routines and personal circumstances, the combination of symptoms are very complex and individually different. In the run-up to the therapy, there is a detailed medical history interview and a thorough examination of all body systems. A treatment plan is then drawn up based on the findings.
