Our baby and children's osteopath Mel

Topic: Baby osteopathy, children osteopathy, pregnancy osteopathy

Languages: native English, German

Mel, who are you?

I was born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa and have been living in Munich, Germany since June 2010. My passion for helping people was sparked during my childhood through regular visits to an orphanage in Mamelodi, South Africa. Although the main reason for these visits was to provide food for the children, I took my little toy medicine bag with me to provide playful care to sick children. During my schooling at the Pretoria High School for Girls, my interest in Medicine deepened, which led to me choosing the necessary subjects required to study Medicine.

In 2010 my family emigrated to Munich, Germany, where I continued my education at the Bavarian International School (BIS). After graduating, I studied Medicine at the University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich, England for two years. Then I decided to return to Munich to choose a different course of study, but still in health care. I studied German intensively for two years at various language schools. I then completed my four-year course at Hochschule Fresenius earning a bachelor's degree in Osteopathy (B.Sc.). In 2022 I successfully passed the Heilpraktikerprüfung, which allows me to practise in Germany as a licensed osteopath.

Tell me more about your professional career.

In recent years I have completed various postgraduate osteopathy courses with a focus on newborns, infants and pregnant women as well as massage, cupping and micronutrients. I completed numerous internships, mostly in pediatric osteopathy practices, in order to deepen my osteopathic and medical knowledge and expand my therapeutic skills.

How can osteopathy help newborns, infants, toddlers and children?

In many ways, by supporting and promoting infants, toddlers and children in their development holistically with osteopathic and alternative treatment principles and methods. Parents also receive useful tips and information to best support their child's development. Children and parents are encouraged to perform demonstrated exercises to actively participate in the healing process.
